20 Dec The school was inspected on 7-8th November 2019. The school was rated INADEQUATE.
Letter from Bridget Methuen, our Chair of Governors (link to OFSTED report below)
This judgement places the school in the fourth and lowest category, although it is not in Special Measures as it has demonstrated that it has the capacity to make the necessary improvements.
Governors and the school leadership team feel that this result does not reflect the impact of all the hard work that has gone into the ongoing running and improvement of the school and the quality of the education for its children. The school was last inspected in April and judged to be GOOD (read the report here), but some concerns concerns were raised, the governors and leadership have been working hard to address these, but coming so soon after the previous visit means that we were not able to show impact of the efforts as yet, as the report acknowledged:
Current leaders have responded quickly in tackling the areas for improvement identified during the previous inspection. They have implemented new policies and procedures. They have strengthened arrangements for assessing pupils’ progress, for developing the mathematics curriculum and improving playground routines. The intentions are clear, but it is too soon to assess the full impact.
The report also says some very positive things about the school, its staff and the children:
Pupils benefit from a strong sense of community. This is felt by pupils, parents and staff alike. Pupils feel safe and parents are positive about the changes taking place. Staff feel appreciated and enjoy being part of the school.
However, we have been well aware that there are aspects of the school’s performance that require improvement. We are working hard to put an action plan in place: a plan that will build on the work of the current leadership team to deliver rapid and sustained improvement and reverse the Inadequate judgement as soon as possible and secure a positive future for the school.
