We place a high priority on Healthy Schools and have recently received the Silver Healthy Schools Award and the Gold Smarter Travel Award.
Healthy Schools Gold Award
We are proud to hold the Healthy Schools Gold Award – a fantastic achievement which recognises our success in helping children maintain a healthy weight , healthy lifestyle and wellbeing. It also acknowledges our engagement in the wider community, supporting others to help children lead healthy lifestyles.
All children from years 1- 6 take part in two PE lessons every week. PE is led by two of our learning mentors who are extremely well trained and provide lessons of an exceptionally high standard. As a result our children are becoming much fitter and have a growing enjoyment of sport and physical activity.
We have a wide range of after school sports clubs, including football, netball, aerobics and cycling. All our clubs are free for children to attend.
Children have many opportunities to take part in competitions and cluster events with local schools. We have good links with Skinners Academy and our children have regular opportunities to work with their Sports Leaders.
We have a large playground with a wide selection of physical activities for children to take part in. Our learning mentors and sports leaders organise a timetable of activities to encourage all children to take part in some physical activity during the week. Our newly installed outdoor gym, trim trail and table tennis tables are popular and used on a daily basis.
We are very fortunate to have a newly installed cooking kitchen and redesigned dining area, as well as our own excellent cook. We encourage all children to have a healthy school dinner and discourage packed lunches. Children have many opportunities to learn about healthy eating through the curriculum. There are two after school cooking clubs which are popular and usually have a waiting list. We have also taken part in the ‘Chef for a day’ project and the HENRY project in the Early Years.
