Spring Term Curriculum Letter;
Welcome back to school and a happy new year to both parents and students.
As usual we have a busy few months ahead and lots to get through. Please ensure that holidays and appointments are booked out of school times as the children’s SATs are fast approaching in May. Generally the Year 6 children are excellent at wearing full uniform but just a reminder that all children must be in full uniform, wearing black shoes/trainers.
Year 6 will continue to have their PE sessions on a Monday morning and a Friday afternoon. It is compulsory that each child has the appropriate P.E kit (a plain white T-shirt, suitable trousers for exercise and trainers- with suitable grip). Please ensure that your child has a water bottle on these days. Children will only be exempt from P.E if they have a signed letter from their parent/carer.
Homework and spellings are set on Friday’s and must be returned by the following Wednesday. Spellings are to be returned on Thursday’s. It is extremely important that it is handed in on time to support the learning in class. It is also expected that each child will use the online Mathletics and Bug Club programme at least once a week. Over the autumn term the usage numbers were very low for the majority of the class, please encourage your child to use both programmes as it helps the children academically.
- Literacy (Reading/Writing or Grammar)
- Maths (based on the work taught in class)
- Mathletics/Bugs Club
Children are asked to read daily for 20-30 minutes. They can read a book from home, the local library or a borrowed book from the class book corner. Each child has a reading record which will be checked daily. They are responsible for these books and must look after them. We cannot continuously replace books. If children fail to read, they will lose 20 minutes of their own time after school.
I also strongly advise that children be provided with a named water bottle, which can be taken home every night to wash and refill.
Each day there is a FREE breakfast club where the children can select from a range of breakfast choices. This is also a good opportunity to complete any homework/reading that they were unable to do at home. There are also art activities and games which the children can engage in.
