Year 5 Autumn Term Curriculum Letter
Welcome all to Year 5! As ever, we have a busy working year ahead of us, full of hard work and enjoyable activities.
Year 5 will have their PE sessions on Monday afternoons and I would appreciate your support in ensuring that for each session your child has the appropriate P.E kit (white T-shirt, dark shorts or tracksuit bottoms and trainers). It is essential that each child has appropriate footwear. If your child is unable to participate in the P.E session then a signed note must be brought to school in order for your child to be exempt. Swimming lessons take place every Tuesday afternoon, and the children must remember their swimming kit for these sessions.
Children are asked to read daily for 20 minutes. They can read a book from home, the local library or a borrowed book from the class library. Each child has a reading record which will be checked regularly. They are responsible for these books and must look after them. We cannot continuously replace books.
For those children who have internet access at home, they are able to use both Bug Club (for set reading) and Mathletics. Both programmes are targeted at each child’s ability and strongly develop key basic skills.
I also strongly advise that children be provided with a named water bottle, which can be taken home every night to wash and refill.
Each day there is a FREE breakfast club where the children can select from a range of breakfast choices. This is also a good opportunity to complete any homework/reading that they were unable to do at home. There are also art activities and games which the children can engage in.
