Year 4 Summer Term Curriculum Letter
Hello to you all and welcome to a new term in year 4! We have a busy working term ahead of us, full of hard work and enjoyable activities.
Year 4 will have their PE sessions twice a week on Tuesday and Thursday afternoons and I would appreciate your support in ensuring that for each session your child has the appropriate P.E kit (T-shirt, tracksuit and trainers). It is essential that each child has appropriate footwear. If your child is unable to participate in the P.E session then a signed note must be brought to school in order for your child to be exempt. Tuesday’s PE sessions are swimming lessons, so children will need to bring a swimming costume, a towel, goggles and a hat. Goggles and hats can be purchased for a small fee from the swimming pool.
Spelling tests take place every Friday and times tables are tested regularly using times table rock stars. By the end of year 4, all pupils should know all of their multiplication tables. Please encourage your child to practise these tables daily.
Children also are asked to read daily for 10 minutes. They can read a book from home, the local library or a borrowed book from the class library. Each child has a reading journal which will be checked daily. They are responsible for these books and must look after them. We cannot continuously replace books.
For those children who have internet access at home, they are able to use both Bug Club (for set reading) and Mathletics. Both programmes are targeted at each child’s ability and strongly develop key basic skills.
I also strongly advise that children be provided with a named water bottle, which can be taken home every night to wash and refill.
Each day there is a FREE breakfast club where the children can select from a range of breakfast choices. This is also a good opportunity to complete any homework/reading that they were unable to do at home. There are also art activities and games which the children can engage in.
25th May: Teacher training day. No school for pupils.
3rd July: trip to Hackney Empire for Apollo Music (pm only)
Should you wish to speak with me at any time, please feel free to arrange a meeting with me through the office.
